History

The village dates from about 12th to 13th century, mentioned from 1251 as Strigoa. Other ancient and foreign-language name of the village were: Strogea, Stegow, Stego (1381), Stregoua (1349), Ztrehowa (1487), Alsozthergowa (1493), Strehowa (1786), Dolní Strehová (1808); Alsósztregova (Hungarian). The village belonged to the family of Ztergua, then to the family of Zechen and since 1430 belonged to the family of Madách. In the 13th century castle stood near the village. In 1552, the village was occupied and destroyed by the Turks, after that was exempted in 1593. In the mid-17th century there was a Latin school, which was attended by M. Bel in 1691. In 1828 the village had 57 houses and 424 inhabitants. They were dealing with agriculture and viniculture. Residents we involved in the SNP, there was created RNV.

Location and climate

The village lies in the northeastern part of the Ipeľ basin, in a broad valley of Tisovník. Altitude in the center of the village is 185 meters above sea level and 170-311 meters above sea level in the vicinity. Surface of the hilly area is formed by broken backs from Young Tertiary, partly from tuffite sediments. On the steeper slopes are oak and acacia woods. It has a floodplain, riparian and brown soils. In the village, there are the thermal mineral springs.

Late Evangelic Church from 1652, rebuilt into classical in 1819. The tower is from 1923, Early Baroque wooden epitaph from 1637 and Baroque stone epitaph from 1726.

The nearby water reservoir named Ľuboreč offers opportunities like windsurfing or fishing. Another sport activity is the possibility of tourism output to a close Lysec or various sport disciplines (soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis) at two multifunctional playgrounds in the village. Ice skating rink is open in winter and is suitable for hockey and skating. This region is rich in wildlife and mushroom picking lovers will find there a real paradise.

Thermal pool was founded in 1959. Total includes five pools. Two of them are for children. After two years of reconstruction, a thermal pool with a 60 year tradition offers recreation opportunities and services at a level that will satisfy even the most demanding customer.
