History

Even in first century, was the territory of Budapest, the capital of the Roman colony Pannomnia, also known as Aquincum (from the Latin word aqua). The Romans knew that the territory is thermal water, and 2 Aquincum built many amphitheaters and baths. Beginning of the 10th century is settled in Pannonia The old Hungarians, and on the foundations Aquincum built the city Buda, which lies on the right side of the Danube and later on the opposite side of the Danube River built the city of Pest.
In 1873, connecting Buda and Old Buda, located on the hilly right side of the Danube and Pest, which lies on the plane on the left side of the river,
was established city of Budapest.

Location and climate

The Budapest City Center is located at an altitude of 105 m. The Danube River divides the city into 2 parts with different types of landscape - one part is a flat while the other is very hilly. Buda hills in the city reached 527 m over sea. The climate is like in Central Europe, light and continental.
