History

The history of the spa Ostrožská Nová Ves dates back to 1903 when ThDr. František Botek, a countryman, managed to prove the healing effects of the sulphurous water springs rising in a nearby swamp. A small country spa with 6 bath booths and a waiting room was built, which over time transformed into a modern spa complex, as it is today.

Location and climate

The Sulphurous Spa at Ostrožská Nová Ves lies in the heart of Moravian Slovakia, some 8 km from the district town Uherské Hradiště. The municipality of Ostrožská Nová Ves is about 1 km from the spa. The spa buildings are surrounded by a forest park covering an area of 10 hectares. Ostrožská Nová Ves is situated in flatland surrounded by the ridge of the White Carpathians from one side and the Chřiby Mountains with the Buchlov Castle as the most important feature from the other side.

Tourist attractions

Dolní Věstonice at the north foot of Pálava (Pálava Hills) became world-famous due to the finding of a fired clay statue – Věstonice Venus. Mušov, which is only a few kilometres away, became renowned thanks to a discovered tomb of a Germanic warrior and remnants of a Roman camp. You can find the centres of then powerful Great Moravian Empire in the valley of the river Morava (Moravia) in Staré Město – Špitálky, Uherské Hradiště – Sady, Mikulčice – Valy and Břeclav - Pohansko. A beautiful example of a medieval castle – Buchlov – was preserved in Chřiby (Chřiby Hills) close to the Buchlovice chateau and the significant spiritual centre – Velehrad. Jewish sights can be admired e.g. in Mikulov, Strážnice or Uherský Brod. Sights of folk architecture are spread throughout Moravian Slovakia. Their largest collections can be found in Strážnice, Pavlov, Hrubá Vrbka, Vápenky or Vlčnov. The interesting examples of modern architecture include, in particular, the towns of Zlín and Luhačovice. The complex of Lednicko-valtický areál (Lednice-Valtice Area) formed by two magnificient chateaux with parks and many park buildings, which beautify the extensive park landscape between Lednice and Valtice, was included among the UNESCO monuments.

Surroundings

The natural scenery in Ostrožsko has some interesting insights. The first one lies in the fertile region of vines. The climatic conditions and soil composition have allowed to develop viniculture already before the 16th Century. The second view is the fertile land, excellent for crops. Ostrožské lakes are also interesting and important for nature conservation. They are an important nest and draught stop for water and wetland birds. The lakes are used for swimming, the water is always clean and of high quality because of the substrate pool that acts as a natural filter.

Natural healing resources

The sulphurous spa is using two mineral springs rich in sulphates, silicic acid, calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium and iron. Locomotive and skin diseases are treated here.
