History

The village was founded by Karel Jindrich who was the owner of the Roznov estate and that was by deed from 8 November 1714. However, the territory lied on the estate of Vsetin, which wasappropriated by the founder. Illeshazyovci the owners of Vsetin claimed their rights, which later led to the secession of Velke Karlovice from Roznov estate and also to the formation of Male Karlovice. This area was connected to the Velke Karlovice again in 1966.

Velke Karlovice lies at Javorniky and Beskydy foothills and they rank among the largest municipalities in Czech Republic with area of ​​82 km ²

Tourist attractions

In 1762 the Velke Karlovice get back its seal. From this period were preserved some of building cultural monuments, the dominant Karlovsky church from 1754 built in late Baroque style, reeve garden from 1793, then a merchant's house serving as Karlov museum, which brings the image of human life in this distinctive corner of Valasska to the thousands of visitors.

Surroundings

The ridges and slopes of the mountains encourage hiking and biking in summer. In winter, skiers will appreciate the offer of prepared ski slopes and countless miles of cross-country and hiking trails with different levels of difficulty. Velke Karlovice is situated in protected landscape area of Beskydy, attractive for its natural beauty. River named Vsetinska Becva rises under the Trojacka and in the valley on the slope of Lemesna is preserved relic from Razula primeval forest with the original fir and beechen vegetation and number of protected plant species.
